Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments for Adults and Children

Our ASD assessments for children and adults evaluate social communication, behaviours, cognitive functioning, and developmental history. Assessments may include interviews, standardised tools, observations, and cognitive testing where needed.
Medicare Rebates: Children under 13 years may be eligible for a partial Medicare rebate when referred for a diagnostic assessment by a paediatrician or child psychiatrist under the Helping Children with Autism items.

Cognitive Assessments (Including WISC-V and WAIS-IV)

What is a cognitive assessment?

A cognitive assessment (WPPSI, WISC, WAIS) is an individually administered intelligence test for individuals that can be completed without reading or writing. The test can take up to 2 hours to administer and generates a Full Scale IQ (formerly known as an intelligence quotient or IQ score) which represents an individual’s general intellectual ability. It also provides four to five primary index scores that represent an individuals ability in more discrete cognitive domains.

What is a Specific Learning Disorder Assessment ?

A specific learning disorder assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that is conducted to identify whether a person has a specific learning disorder, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia. The assessment typically involves a range of tests, observations, and interviews to assess a person’s cognitive and academic abilities, as well as their overall development.

The assessment process may include tests of reading, writing, math, and other skills, as well as an assessment of the person’s intellectual functioning and memory. Additionally, the assessment may involve interviews with the person and their family members, as well as observation of the person in academic and non-academic settings.

The purpose of the assessment is to identify any learning difficulties that the person may be experiencing and to develop recommendations for support and intervention to help the person overcome these difficulties. The results of the assessment can also be used to inform decisions about academic accommodations and other supports that may be necessary for the person to succeed in school or other settings.

• Is my child exhibiting any particular cognitive difficulties or impairments?
• Is my child gifted?
• My child seems to be good at some things but struggles with other things. Does this impact them at school or kindergarten?
• Does my child have problems with memory?
• Does my child have processing difficulties?

Cognitive and SLD Assessments are able to give us information about a an individuals general intellectual ability, in addition to specific information about their strengths and areas of weakness.
